Selecting the right Thermal Conductive Products for Led lighting

The comparison of Thermal grease/paste and thermal pad

Thermal Grease/Paste:



Advantage:
1. The common thermal conductivity range is 2-4w/m.k, and lowest thermal resistance
2. Good compliance to different LED package, and can reach 0.1mm thickness or much thinner

Disadvantage:
1. Thermal grease is easy to dirty parts, inconvenient to rework or assembly, and resulted in a waste.
2.  It's not easy to control the thickness of grease over 0.2mm thickness.
3.  The thermal grease will be volatilization after a long time high temperature use so that affect the performance of the thermal conductivity.

Thermal Pad/ Tape



Advantage:

1.  Thermal pad products are designed to improve an assembly’s thermal performance and reliability while saving time and money
2.  It’s excellent choice to be used in the big area to offset the dimensional tolerance, uneven surface textures and grads of mechanical design basing on good compliance and compression to eliminate air gaps

Disadvantage:

The unit price of the Thermal Pad is higher than Thermal Grease in the same application.
